A Safe Home for Girls

House with Heart provides a loving, family home for Nepali girls threatened by poverty, abandonment, and exploitation.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in South Asia, with more than a quarter of its population living below the national poverty line. These conditions fuel a cycle of deprivation: limited access to education and medical care, poor health outcomes, and child labor.

Extreme poverty, recurring natural disasters, and high adult mortality have left many children orphaned or without stable care. At the same time, children in remote villages and marginalized communities often lack reliable access to food, schooling, and healthcare. Girls are especially at risk, facing child and early marriage, domestic servitude, and trafficking into the sex trade, conditions that place them among the most vulnerable members of Nepali society.

Our Kathmandu residential home offers not only shelter but also the stability of family life, medical care, daily nutritious meals, and nurturing guidance. Each girl attends local school and receives tutoring to help her thrive academically.

Since 2001, House with Heart has supported Nepali children facing abandonment and deep poverty. Beyond safety, medical care, and education, we provide the consistent care and stability that enable them to grow into independent adults able to lead lives of dignity and self-determination.

Each girl who comes to House with Heart has faced serious hardship. Suji’s story reflects what sustained care and a stable family home make possible over time.

Suji’s Story

Suji came to House with Heart at twenty-five months old, severely malnourished. She had been living without basic care in a remote, rural village following the death of her father. With her mother unable to provide for her, Suji had experienced prolonged neglect and deprivation.

In our home with medical care, regular meals, and daily support, her health and development improved quickly. Within weeks she had gained weight and become an alert, playful toddler.

Suji is now a bright, thriving teenager with strong math skills and is active in soccer. She reads English fluently and is often stretched out on her bed with a book propped in front of her.
