Education is the most powerful safeguard we can offer children facing poverty, instability, and limited opportunity.
Across the Kathmandu Valley, children face steep barriers to learning: the cost of tuition, uniforms, and supplies; pressure to leave school early to earn income; and the absence of safe, supportive learning environments. Girls are especially at risk of dropping out, with lifelong consequences for their independence, economic security, and protection from exploitation.
House with Heart responds by prioritizing education for the girls in our family residence and, separately, offering the following educational programs to children in the surrounding Kathmandu community who face significant barriers to learning:
Rise Above
A multi-year tutoring initiative designed to change the educational trajectory of Nepali girls facing significant barriers to learning. Through after-school instruction and mentoring, Rise Above helps girls remain in school, strengthen core academic skills, and build confidence. This support enables participants to complete their education, pursue higher studies or vocational training, secure meaningful work, and ultimately break cycles of poverty.
Children’s Learning Center
Located on our Kathmandu property, the Children’s Learning Center is a day program for local preschool children from families facing extreme economic hardship. Here, children learn, play, and grow in a safe environment under the care of trained staff, while receiving balanced, nutritious meals that support healthy development.
Educational Support & Sponsorships
House with Heart provides targeted financial assistance to cover school fees, uniforms, books, and exam costs for select students in the Kathmandu community, from early schooling through university. This support helps ensure that vulnerable students are not forced to abandon their education due to financial constraints.
By reducing both financial and structural barriers, House with Heart helps children remain in school, complete their studies, and build the foundation for brighter futures.
